The Alma Hybrid laser is the newest generation of Hybrid lasers. This means it uses two wavelengths in the one treatment session. So advanced is this laser, it can be tuned to treat the upper & lower aspects of skin in the one pulse. The Hybrid laser is flexible enough to provide unparalleled skin rejuvenation, erasing up to one decade of wrinkles, whilst gentle enough to treat even the most sensitive skin types for minimal downtime.

What is so special about the ALMA Hybrid laser?
This laser uses two wavelengths to customize treatment profiles for each case. This means I can target key areas of the skin, from superficial to deep. Additionally, downtime can be tailored accordingly.
The Alma Hybrid can treat all skin types from fair skin through to ethnic skin types. This laser has an Impact function to aid in delivery of topicals to the deeper areas of skin.
What can Hybrid lasers treat?
This laser is classed as a resurfacing laser. It can be tuned to treat the upper, lower or both depths of the skin. Hence it is a brilliant laser for-
- Resurfacing sun damage & superficial pigment
- Removing deep dermal pigment
- Removing scars from acne, chickenpox, burns & surgery
- Reducing fine to deep lines & wrinkles
- Delivering vitamins to the deeper layers of skin
How do I use the Hybrid to treat acne scarring?
Hybrid lasers are useful for cases of early acne scarring. We use a combination of ablative CO2 & NA lasers to remodel early acne scars. Suitable candidates include-
- Acne scars less than 6 months old
- Acne that is under good control, eg. patients who are on Accutane
- Mixed superficial scars including pick, ice pick & boxcar scars
Most patients require between 4-6 sessions, spaced 4-6 weeks apart. Downtime ranges from 2 to 4 days, depending on the settings. To keep costs down, my laser nurses perform this treatment.
How do I use the Alma Hybrid to treat wrinkles & sun damage?
This laser can make a huge difference to skin aging. We can expect up to one decade of rejuvenation using this laser.
I primarily use the CO2 function of this laser as it is best for collagen remodelling. It is especially effective for upper lip lines, & eye rejuvenation. Suitable candidates for hybrid resurfacing include-
- Mild, moderate or severe sun damage & wrinkling
- Skin laxity
- Age related pigmentation & blemishes

How do I use it to treat melasma?
I use the special NA or non-ablative component to treat dermal or resistant melasma. This allows me to spare the upper layers of skin and deliver power to the mid to deep dermis. This burst of energy can provide a shuttle system for pigment (both melanin & melanocytes) to exit the epidermis. This is termed melanin shuttling. Patients require between 4-8 sessions for optimal outcomes.
Note, this treatment is only for patients who have resistant melasma. It is not indicated for epidermal melasma as there are far more effective treatments available.
Is it painful?
Depends. We are mindful of patient comfort levels. For superficial resurfacing only numbing gel is required. For more involved procedures we use gas & sedation. We got you covered.
How does it compare to HALO Fractional laser resurfacing?
No comparison. The Alma has a much higher performance envelope compared to the HALO. HALO laser uses the erbium wavelength but does so with minimal power. With the Alma system it allows me to go gentle (with minimal or no downtime), or conversely go deep with far superior energy levels than other hybrid lasers.
How does it compare to Fraxel lasers?
It is twice as powerful as Fraxel & almost twice as fast. Fraxel is still one of the most widely used lasers at Cutis Dermatology, however we almost always use the 1927 wavelength & not the 1550. With Alma’s new laser, it allows me to treat many skin concerns that traditionally cannot be treated with lower laser power.
What is the Alma Impact & what is it used for?
The Alma Impact™ emits acoustic waves & pressured air to help increase the delivery of cosmetic products into the skin’s deeper layers for enhanced results.
Impact™ creates a “push and pull” effect releasing fluid in the cellular layer & at the same time enhancing the absorption of skin care actives such as retinoids, growth factors & anti-inflammatories.
Who performs this laser procedure?
This laser is mostly used by my lead nurses. I use it for more complicated cases of skin scarring or rejuvenation. My work focuses on skin conditions that are classed as complex or severe.
Davin’s Viewpoint on the Alma Hybrid Laser
This laser is the newest generation of Hybrid Lasers. It sets the benchmark high as it is currently the market leader. The CO2 component of this laser provides enough energy to go deep into the skin’s dermal layer, in turn stimulating collagen production. Conversely it can be tuned to provide ultra-short downtime but wide coverage. This means I can work the laser to produce as little as 12 hours of downtime, to more than 7 days if required (for deep sun damage, wrinkles). We also employ this laser for laser assisted drug delivery, namely, to deploy retinoids into the deep layer of skin.
The Alma has a non-ablative wavelength of laser. This allows for even gentler resurfacing of the skin. This 1570 laser can be used to treat acne scars, photoaging, wrinkles & deeper melasma pigmentation. Much like the CO2 part of the laser, this NA wavelength can be tuned to provide gentle exfoliation or super deep penetration of the skin- more than 2X the power of Fraxel lasers.
The ‘mix’ feature of Alma Hybrid means I have an almost infinite amount of tunability as I can control the amount of CO2, or NA laser, the density, pulse duration, stacks, spot size, cooling & many more. This laser allows for bespoke skin rejuvenation- from mild to seriously unbelievable makeovers.
