Chin & Shaping

The chin is the focal point of the inverted triangle of beauty. It is the most important feature of the lower one-third of the face, tying in the jawline. Subtle improvements with volume & contouring can balance facial harmonics, sharpening the jawline, reducing jowls & laxity in the neck area.

FactsFacts on chin shaping

  • The chin is integral to facial aesthetics
  • Tiny tweaks in this area can make a significant difference overall
  • Chin projection is best seen on the side or obliquely
  • Chin liposuction can define the chin & jawline areas
  • HIFU & RF energy devices can tighten the chin- jawline areas

Why is Chin Shape Important?

The chin is the focal point of the inverted triangle of aesthetics. Ideally, females have a gradual taper that is proportional to the nasal alar. On the side profile, the chin should have enough projection to enable a straight line to be drawn from the nasal tip, lip & chin.

By lengthening & projecting the chin, I am able to enhance the shape of the face. For patients with a round face, adding volume in the superior-inferior plane (up & down), one can subtly elongate this axis. Chin enhancement can also provide traction for the jowls & sagging neck in more mature patients.

Concept of balance. The current trend is adding volume to cheekbones, resulting in a strong & projected middle third of the face. This often further highlights the weaker lower one-third.

Davin’s take on chin shaping

Chin and Jawline Balance

The chin plays an important role in overall facial harmony, forming part of the lower third of the face and contributing to the relationship between the jawline, mouth, and neck.
Small differences in chin height, projection, or proportion can influence the appearance of facial balance and profile.

A common aesthetic concern is disproportion between the middle and lower thirds of the face.
When the lower face lacks definition or structural support, attention may appear concentrated in the cheek area rather than evenly distributed across the face.

Careful assessment of proportions is therefore essential when considering any approach to facial rejuvenation.

All medical and aesthetic procedures carry risks, and individual results vary.
A consultation with a qualified health practitioner is required to determine suitability and to discuss appropriate management of lower-face concerns.
